Finished Venetian Blind with Tailspun border

Well I finished knitting and blocking this and I love it. I wrote about it earlier, the pattern is Venetian Blind from Ravelry. The fiber was my kitchen sink single..( a little of everything spun on the fly) plied with a single spun turquoise merino braid from Quillin Fiber Arts. I used the same color to create a bulky two ply to knit the collar, the increases and for binding off. I spun a tailspun yarn with locks from https://www.etsy.com/shop/MarkreeWoolCraft on etsy.

Finished Spinning a variegated merino braid

Last night I chain plied and washed the yarn. Today it dried in the sunshine.

Here are some pictures of the finished product

This shows the concentrations of colors the best. I spun across the braid with no stripping and I chain plied.

I like the way this shows the colors. Not the best chain plying but definitely knit worthy yarn!

Spinning a variegated merino braid

When I watch TV I try to do something else at the same time. If I knit while I watch TV I end up messing up my stitches, I don't seem to have as much of a problem with spinning. Spinning is such a tactile craft..I think you could almost do it with your eyes closed. With the lovely braid I just spun you definitely want to look. The color way is called Kaleidoscope, it was dyed by Gritty Knits. I am going to practice my chain plying, sometimes called Navajo Plying. I hope that it will keep the colors together and give me more practice chain plying. When I spun this I tried hard to spin across the braid so that I would have longer sections of color. It seemed especially important with this braid since the color sections in some parts were kind of short. Below is a picture of the braid on the Bobbin. Here is the stock photo of the merino braid since I forgot to take a picture of my braid.

Grand Champion

Once again a yarn show that needed entries.. This time Heart of NM Fiber Gathering. This yarn won grand champion.

Blue ribbons at Taos Wool Festival

A friend in one of my spinning groups requested yarn entries in some off the New Mexico yarn competitions. He was training yarn judges. I reluctantly entered. Much to my surprise I won two blue ribbons at the Taos Wool Festival. I have posted photos of these before but here they are again.

Cool rigid heddle weaving

I love to spin art yarns and I think beehives are really cool looking. I posted this on my weaving blog but thought I would also post it here. This is a nice way to display beehives in your weaving. It is called finger manipulated weft floats.
